A Call For Help…YELP.

Dear Friends, Clients, and Colleagues

Hey everyone…I am reaching out here for some help from all of you who have experienced my massage/advanced healing bodywork at sometime or another.  I know everyone has very busy schedules, I’m right there with you juggling my load…but here I am asking for a little of your time and energy because I am in need of some of my community’s support.  It would be extremely helpful if you would take a few minutes out of your day today (or sometime in the very near future) to visit my Yelp page and leave a review of the service I provided for you.  Reviews are very powerful in the professional world today, not only do they validate the legitimacy of a business; they actually help increase or decrease clientele.

I deeply trust that you have all been happy with the service I have provided for you and I believe a recommendation from you would do wonders to increase my search visibility and help people find me when they are looking for the right massage therapist in the Santa Cruz area.  Whether I have been working with you for a long period of time, we no longer work together, or even if you only had a brief taste of what I offer; any review will help.  Even if it’s not a high ranking one…it will help me improve my capabilities in helping others.  I appreciate any time and energy that you are willing to give to help me continue to grow into a prosperous business!!!

My Yelp Page longs for you words…just click my yelp page link and it will take you right there.  Thank you again for you help with this.

Blessings of Abundant Health and Prosperity to ALL,

Occupy Your Body: A Kundalini Dance Experience 11/30/11

OCCUPY YOUR BODY!

DANCE YOUR REVOLUTION!

I am very excited to announce the Nov 30th Kundalini Dance workshop at the Mystic Activation Temple in Oakland, CA. This will be no ordinary dance class; Kundalini Dance is a personal rEVOLUTION for body, mind, and spirit.

We all have fear that is stuffed down, joy that is bottled up, painful memories frozen inside, and lifetimes of karma that we are carrying around all day, every day. The old limiting belief system is breaking down, no longer serving your future, your potential. Life has become heavy and we are over-taxed while being under nourished.

IT’S TIME TO MAKE A CHANGE.  IT MUST START FROM WITHIN AND ONLY YOU CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!

We need to replenish ourselves, update our contracts, and align with each other if we are to ever see the global change we are all calling for. This tantric, shamanic healing modality gives the space time continuum we need to honor, process and move together through what we are currently holding onto within our bodies and in our realities. We shake it up to wake it up, feel it to heal it, and take a one-way dance journey into our own evolution.

In my personal experience Kundalini Dance is more transformative than traditional therapy; plus it’s so much more fun and affordable too!

Demand change for yourself; occupy your body.  Demand change for our world; occupy together.

Yarah Volkman:  The Dance Floor Shaman

I have been a passionate free-style dancer for as long as I can remember…There was at least 1 incident where I can clearly remember how if felt being ridiculed at a middle school dance by the “in” crowd for my not so “in” moves.  However, the dance floor kept calling me and the music told me to pay no mind to them.  I became deeply involved in the electronic music scene in the late 90’s and dancing became my medium of therapy.  It didn’t matter who was watching, I danced like no one was.  Soon people began to approach me because they felt called to share that I inspired them with the way I moved my body to the beat of the music, the way I flowed in time and space, the way I freed my spirit on the dance floor.  Their words touched my heart in such a profound way; “You inspire me…”  With so many expressing this to me, I began to realize that this was one of my human super powers (we all have them); inspire humanity to dance. to heal. to love.  To dance is to live.

In 2006 my first live experience with Kundalini Dance changed my dancing and dramatically changed my life.  I recognize that I am no longer a

Yarah facilitating at EarthDance 2010, Laytoville, CA

dancer, but instead I willingly become a shamanic priestess.  As a shaman on the dance floor, I offer myself to all as a conduit, an evolutionary guide, and compassionate ally on this collective journey through the great shift we are facing together.    I aim to inspire the world around me through living my bliss; I inspire through embodiment.  I am here to share my excitement and experience of life with the world.  I am here to share love in her many forms. Together we can reach our highest potential; we can live the reality of our choice.  Create transformation; occupy your body.

Calling My Sis’Stars Home

This week has been unfolding into a beautiful reminder of my femininity.  My Yoni…Speaks.  My Vagina…Monologues.  I am the complexity and the simplicity of all.  I am a divine goddess, a throbbing beat of sensuality, an explosion of orgasm.  I am a woman; a daughter; a lover; a mother; a sister.  I am the Earth.  I am the Heart.  I am the Sun.  I am Me.  I am You.

I am feeling the deepness of sisterhood — the aches, pains, love, triumphs, liberation, and joy. We have loved each other, hurt each other, supported each other, abandoned each other, challenged each other, held each other, and ripped each other apart.  We will continue to rise up together, to grow together, and to change the world together. Through the connections, the disappointments, the bliss, and the rage…we are sisters. Sis’Stars…Sea’Stars…may we be blessed with heart healing.

I am thankful to all my sisters, near and far, past, present, and future. I am thankful to those who choose to remain close and honor those who have chosen to do otherwise.  Thank you for your teachings.  I rejoice in all I learn from you.  The wisdom that guides me gently and intensity that blows me open.  I am soothed by your touch and held in the comfort of your love.  Each of you has inspired me in some way – through friendship, through triggers, through play, and through fight…you bless my life.  I expand in happiness for the strength you give me to live my true heart’s desire, to be my passions, to feel wholly, to inspire others through living.

Unity in Sisterhood

I cry for those who chose to run from the truth instead of facing it to learn.  I cry for who chose to hide from the challenges instead of integrating for their own evolution of self.  I cry for who chose to remain in the darkness of separation instead of bask in the light of oneness.  I cry for those who refuse to look into the mirror of their soul behind the depths of my gaze.  I cry for those who chose to stay content with mediocrity instead of flying into their full potential on the wings of unconditional love and acceptance.  I cry for those who choose to walk away because they aren’t willing to do the work to rise above their programming.  I cry for those who just don’t want to face their shit and so stay stuck in their destructive and self limiting patterns.  I cry for those who say they are too busy, their schedules are too full for the time it takes to build strong bonds, to birth a new world, to create peace inside, to remain sisters.  I cry for those who live as a victim of their circumstances because they aren’t willing to accept the responsibility for the life they create and so never experience the ecstasy of CHANGE.

Why?  Mama, I give up.  I give it all up to you on the wave of my breath.  Take this pain, the rejection, the suffering I feel.  Purge through me.  Heal my wounds, sew my shreds back together with your heart strings.  I purify with my tears and flow down the river of evolution.  I feel the welling up inside of me.  I feel the want and desire for the closeness of my sisters, for our connection.  I release the competition, I release the deceit, I release the disappointment…I seek the peace and wisdom of our divine feminine inside, our evolved self.  I know we are all interwoven in the web of life, cocooned in your womb…let us blossom beyond our wildest dreams.

I hope for them to find their way through their challenges and back into my arms of sisterly love; knowing that they are welcome here in their entirety, light and shadow, into my arms with compassion.  I hope they will allow the love I give freely to open their hearts and surrender their ego into love that we are.  Welcome home.

Blessings to All My Sistars.

What the heck is a CHAKRA? And why should I explore mine?

These are both valid questions…and I will do my very best to answer them here for you.

The word chakra originates from the ancient Sanskrit text meaning: wheel or disk.  These vortexes of energy spin like gears and flow in tube torus currents through all the auric layers.  Imagine these spinning wheels of energy serving as mini brains – collecting, assimilating, and influencing your life journey.  Chakras are our personal hard drives of information, emotions, and past experiences.  We have 7 main chakras located in within the body and  governing different aspects of our lives in all realms: physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.   The chakras even carry ancestral imprints, carrying the history of your family line within the cells of your body.  This system is a powerful tool that brings awareness to how everything in our life relates and influences everything else.

When our chakras are in balance, we are in balance. But when they become out of balance (otherwise known as blocked), either being deficient or excessive, it’s like we have a personal computer virus.  Our energy flow is inhibited and begins to manifest in the body as pain, disease, and rigid belief systems.  Programming through childhood experiences, social conditioning, cultural values, past pain, and stress can all affect the proper functioning of a chakra.  And who hasn’t had this in life?  I don’t know of 1 person.  I speak from experience when I say; there are profound healing benefits  in working with your chakra system as a map for your personal journey to restore balance.

I Choose to Witness

Calmly, I communicated my truth about the experience and it was met with defense and offense at the same time.  Staying aligned and grounded, while keeping my heart open to his; I took my power stance (the heart meridian runs through the hands, so I placed my masculine energy, right hand over my solar plexus  and feminine energy, left hand over my heart) and listened with love as his objections and projections flowed from his lips.  After awhile, I had come to the point within a discussion that I felt it was no longer beneficial (for either of us) to engage any further.  I gazed into his left eye and visualized a container of healing light around the both of us.  No words to pass my lips, just witnessing.  I see the Divinity in you and you are a mirror for me.  I witness you.  I hold and support you through this with my presence.

I choose this method because I am familiar with my triggers and I have been dancing on an evolutionary path that challenges me.  I can admit that I get tangled in the emotional cyclone of my egoic psyche.  Empowered and expanded, this day; I choose to stay grounded and alchemically aligned with the Divine Feminine and Divine Masculine.  I choose to trust my intuitive body.  I choose to be soft.  I choose to know that this is not personal.  I choose to be compassionate.  I choose to speak my truth gently.  In this moment, I choose to stay in the higher vibration of our third eye connection.   I witness and it is beautiful.

To bring the experience in these types of situation full circle for both parties, I also want to further explore words that can help facilitate the opening of the other’s awareness to the situation without moving into a projection conversation…I feel that this topic can quite easily drop the vibration of dialogue, coming across more of a finger pointing session; particularly if the individual is already projecting their personal actions into accusations.

Creating Sacred Space with Invocation and Calling the Quarters

It doesn’t matter what path is being walked, danced, and lived.  Whether partaking in prayer, ritual, ceremony, or just wanting to set a powerful intention to manifest; there is a point when we must move beyond the mundane of regular life and enter into sacred time and space.  There are energies, spirits, and animal guides all around us that are willing and actually WANT to help guide us in reaching our full potential in this life; all we have to do is ask.  You don’t even have to be a “spiritual” person to set an intention, you just have to want something to shift in your life.

Personally I do not create sacred space the exact same way, every time.  I do not read from a script (anymore, although I did until I felt confident with my words), but instead knowing the attributes of the directions; I let the invocation flow from me in a very organic way, calling in what I am feeling and seeking in that moment.  I create sacred space for my own personal work and especially when facilitating a group, as I do in my Kundalini Dance practice and all other workshops I am involved in.  I have written out ONE way to do it, which I have adapted from my mentor, Leyolah Antara (founder of Kundalini Dance) but there are endless possibilities.  Feel free to use whatever you wish from what I have here.  Maybe at first you may want to read it word for word, until you are familiar with the directions and feel comfortable.  I wish to inspire all to fine tune it to suit YOUR needs or the needs of your group.

Before beginning the work, first always release stagnant or old energies that are no longer serving us, clearing away any bad feelings and energies and negative thoughts or spirits.  This is to be done in both the physical and spiritual sense and can be done in several methods. Use one or all of these:

Physically- During the process always hold the intention to wash away all that is no longer serving your highest purpose

  • clean your body (shower or bath)
  • anoint your body with sacred water or oil (this can be done in conjunction with or in place of the shower/bath, if one is inaccessible)
  • clean your space (remove clutter, organize, and sweep).

Spiritually During the process, always hold the intention of clearing away all that is not of the highest vibration of light and love. In my practice – moving clockwise draws in, moving counter clockwise releases.  So when clearing out negativity I move around the space in a counter clockwise fashion.  This may not be the manner in which you work and that is okay too.

  • White Sage Smudge Stick

Native people throughout the world have used the ancient method of smudging.  This is the burning of sacred plants to create a cleansing smoke bath, which is used to purify spaces, people, tools.  The most commonly used plants are sage, cedar, rosemary, lavender, and sweet grass.

  • Clear space by ringing a bell as you move around the space
  • You may also use clapping in the same method you would use the bell
  • Energetically sweep the negativity out of the room, using your hand or a broom.

Invocation of Directions – Facing the direction you are calling in.  If using this for a group, replace the word “I” with “we”

Element of AIR

Guardian of the East, element of Air, the sacred breath; I invite you in.  Come blow the debris away from my heart and mind, so I may soar with the eagle as the witness, learning and living the art of conscious communication.  With each rising sun you bring continued lessons on new beginnings.

From this direction I call upon Arch Angel Raphael, Raphaela, Raphael, Raphaela, Raphael, Raphaela. Angel of healing and Master of the power of light, whose sword of peace lies at the edge of the rainbow bridge of faith between human and our Divine; please heal me, so my thoughts may flow freely, bring peace of mind and healing energy.

Element of FIRE

Guardian of the South, element of Fire, the sacred heart; I invite you in.  Come burn through my illusions of separation, so I may run with the wolf at play, igniting the passions of creativity that burn deep inside my being.  With your flickering flame you bring lessons that can purify me of the old ways, so I may transform anew.

From this direction I call upon Arch Angel Mikael, Mikaela, Mikael, Mikaela, Mikael, Mikaela.  Angel of protection and Master of the Powers of life, whose wand of courage lies at the heart of hope in the summer sun; please protect me from troubles and fears, giving me the courage of conviction to share hope and inspire the world.

Element of WATER

Guardian of the West, element of Water, the sacred womb; I invite you in.  Come wash over me with your sea of compassion.  Giving me the strength of the bear to wade through my ocean of emotions, so I may move from a place of grace and power.  With your cascading waterfalls your bring lessons of living in abundance and harmony with all life.

From this direction I call upon Arch Angel Gabriel, Gabriela, Gabriel, Gabriela, Gabriel, Gabriela. Angel of dreams and Master of the powers of love, whose cup of love lies in the depths of our feelings and the ebb and flow of the tides; please speak to me in my dreams, teaching me the ways of my great internal truth.

Element of EARTH

Guardian of the North, element of Earth, the sacred body; I invite you in.  Come ground my energy in your strong and stable roots.  Teach me the wisdom of the owl, so I may learn when to speak and when to listen.  With your nurturing ways you bring powerful lessons in forgiveness and acceptance.  May we learn from you to live as ONE.

From this direction I call upon Arch Angel Uriel, Uriela, Uriel, Uriela, Uriel, Uriela.  Angel of Peace and Master of the powers of law, whose disc of strength lies deep in the stability of our planet Earth and at the feel of our spiritual self; please give me peace, showing me the strength of understanding in these chaotic and confusing times.

Mama Gaia

Mama Gaia, Earth love, rising from below above.  I call you come, entwine my roots with yours.  With every breath I take our roots grow, down and out, spreading throughout the Earth and entangling with all roots, forming the flower of life within your body.  Fill our roots with your transmutational flame of purification that we may vibrate into ecstatic evolution. In complete surrender of body, mind, and soul, I open to receive the mandala of creation.

Father Sun

Father Sun, I call you come; fill my longing heart with your sweet golden nectar that I may once again know your loving embrace and receive the tools for integration.  With every breath I take, I expand into love, returning home to you, to my my star sisters and brothers.  In complete surrender of body, mind, and soul I open to receive the codes of light, overlaying the divine blueprint of my soul.

Mother Earth and Father Sun, I call you now to marry as ONE.  Dance me awake into the new paradigm of your higher consciousness and balance my heart with your love, birthing me anew in the sacred tantric union of divinity.

As above, so below.  As without, so within.

You have now created a safe and sacred space and are ready to begin…

Stand for OUR RIGHTS!

Dear Members of the California State Assembly

I’m writing on behalf of all dancers and music lovers in California and all around the world.; I implore you to deny support for AB 74.  The intent of this law might carry the pretense that it aims to reduce drug use, abuse, and accidents..  Yet, it is a blatant attack on the rights of people that have not committed  crime to dissuade those that have.  This bill is targeting a specific scene, seriously discriminating against our type of music, peaceful gatherings, musicians, philosophers, artists, engineers, politicians, and the music and dance enthusiasts, who happen to be law abiding citizens that support you.  It is known globally that mind and body altering substances have been around LONG before “pre-recorded music” and they will continue to be a part of our civilization no matter the force that is inflicted upon the people.  Punishing everyone for the tragic deaths of a minority of people infringes on our rights as human beings and American citizens.

More people die from alcohol related accidents, but I have never heard of a bill to limiting the length and type of sporting events, concerts, or any other  event that has beer sales.  And as prescription overdoses and deadly combinations are continuing to rise; no one is mentioning fining the  late night pharmacies or the doctor offices that prescribed the pills.  It is discrimination of the Electronic Music Scene!  We are singled out, while the government choses to deal with these  other deathly practices in completely different manner; like collecting the tax from sales.  This bill is an abusive way to collect monies that are missed at Electronic Music events by criminally charging and then fining the people that hold an event that exceeds 3 1/2 hours and includes pre-recorded music.  This states that the ‘unlicensed’ birthday party I threw for my 13 year old son, with long time family friends DJing at this overnighter that lasted for at least 8 hours was a misdemeanor and should be fined up to $10,000?  How ridiculous does that sound?  Welcome to the obtuse language of AB 75 – The Anti-Rave Act of 2011.

This bill is offensive; taking away the cornerstone of America — FREEDOM.  Freedom of assembly.  Freedom of expression.  And the protection of rights not enumerated in the Constitution.  Stop this unconstitutional move by Assemblywoman Fiona Ma and avoid an increase in underground scenes; don’t repeat the mistakes that were made when passing the Prohibition bill.  Pushing any scene underground will be cause to more unnecessary struggle between civilians and government officials, in which I believe will lead to even more crime and violence.  The bill does not stand to solve any problems we face today, but instead further revokes our human rights to gather together and dance to the music we love.  This behavior reflects the action similar to Nazi’s, as they banned various genres of music, gatherings, and dancing.

Music is incredibly powerful and important to our society and the right to assemble to enjoy that music with others will not be taken from us without a fight. I urge you to take action against AB 74.  I want no part of becoming a police state, and ask that you please stand with me to make sure that our rights are protected.  This is our life, let us live it as we like. Don’t let this suppressive bill pass, instead support our country’s claim of ‘freedom,’ for the sake of the first and ninth amendments, our sanity, free thought, and community, vote NO on the Anti-Rave Act of 2011!  Dancing is not a crime.  Music is not a crime.  Gathering is not a crime.  Keep America free, keep America dancing!

Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter; our future depends on it.  May you be blessed with the wisdom to handle this with the care it deserves.

Peace to You,

Yarah Volkman

More often than not, the common reason I hear people use to NOT have a massage is because they don’t have the time, money, or need to “pamper themselves” or “indulge in frivolous things”. I’m hear to tell EVERYONE…yes that means you too, please listen up…

Bodywork is much more than a simple luxury to be had when you have the time or enough extra cash laying around. It is an ideal way to keep you rejuvenated and nourished, which is helps with your overall well-being and maintaining a body free of dis-ease. The physical and emotional health benefits list is long and very detailed, but because it feels SO good, too many people don’t realize or even discredit the actual effects it has on the individual – body, mind, and spirit.

Relax

Allow yourself to be nurtured.

It not only feels good, but it can truly help alleviate what ails you.  Touch is a natural human reaction to pain and stress, and for conveying compassion and support. Having a session does more than just relax your body and mind – there are specific physiological and psychological changes which occur, even more so when services are utilized as a regular therapy and not categorized simply as an indulgence.

I dance.

I dance.
I dance to feel complete.
Music travels through my entire being.
I dance to let go of the pain and disappointments of life.
Move on through movement.
Grow.
I breathe deep into my new body.
I dance to feel true freedom. Freedom from limitations, freedom from expectations, freedom from the box society has created.
I dance for the freedom of others who cannot dance, what ever the reason.
I dance for expression, to express without words.
Here I am.
I dance to feel. The beat.
My emotions take me on a journey through the music, connecting me with Oneness; I am safe to experience all.
Ecstasy.
I dance because music does not judge, does not criticize, and does not play favorites. Music does not care who you are or what you believe.
Music will never turn Her back.
Music is acceptance.
I dance because I am grateful for the gift I have been given.
I dance to be real.
I dance to forgive those who have hurt me and to forgive myself for the hurt I have caused.
I dance to remember that I am not a victim but a force in life.
The dance floor helps me remember that I choose who I am.
I dance to be full. Positive energy emanating from my pores, I empty myself in front of you.
I dance to find peace from within. I surrender.
I dance to worship.
I dance to give part of myself, to share my passion with those who need it.
I let them feed from my soul like a mother nursing her child.
I dance to move you.
I dance to help you dream of existence unknown to us but remembered.
I let you in.
I shine for you, filling your soul with my purest love.
I dance in faith for all and faith in my own abilities to create love.
I dance for awareness of the affect I have on others.
We create the world we live in. In my world I am a dancer; a mother; a healer.
I dance for my affect to be a positive one.
I dance to uplift.
I dance to inspire. Close your eyes and feel me.
I dance because I don’t know how not to.
I dance to calm myself.
As intensity courses through my being dancing grounds and centers my soul.
It brings understanding into light.
Things just make sense on the dance floor.
I dance to listen. She speaks. Shhhh…………………turn it up.
I dance to learn.
To unite and nourish my being with the knowledge provided.
Envelop me.
I dance to know…of myself, of others, of our power from within.
I dance to dare others to be true to themselves.
The courageous step on to the dance floor; cast out fear of failure, embarrassment, or of being inadequate and let the music take over.
I invite all onto the dance floor with me as long as you do not step with an agenda or with competition; you must step for the love of dance.
Be pure.
I dance to will my self to be a greater person. More giving, more loving, more flexible. Focus on love…ahhhhhhh.
I dance to be silent and just be. No drama, just dance.
I dance to teach for I must not keep this to myself.
It’s about the music, it’s about the movement, it’s about the motivation of passion.
I’ll show you if you like.
Turn it up.
Watch, judge not.
I dance because I love. YOU. Myself.
I dance to feel like a woman, a glorious sensual being with passion radiating all around me.
Passion of Air.
Passion of Fire.
Passion of Water.
Passion of Earth.
Breathe.
I feel the heat coursing through my body as if my heart was pumping to the same beat as the DJ.
The sweat dripping down my body is an enticing reminder that I am true.
I do not hide on the dance floor nor make believe I am someone I am not.
Authentic.
No pretenses.
Just me, just music, just dance.
I dance to feel the earth beneath my feet.
Holding me.
Balancing me.
The power I feel from her is like no other comfort I’ve known.
It rises through me and guides my way.
I dance to connect my human self and my spiritual self with Greatness.
I dance to show others the possibility of it all.
I dance for peace. Give peace a dance!
I dance to be alive.
To dance is to live.
